In an action on two notes, the defendant appeals from the judgment and from the direction of a verdict against the defendant on his counterclaims.

The parties here were landlord and tenant. The landlord procured one note during the tenancy to cover damage to the property beyond normal wear and tear. The other note was procured after the tenant had moved out.…
