This appeal arises from the trial court’s granting of defendant’s motion to dismiss plaintiff’s complaint with prejudice. For purposes of this appeal, we will consider the facts as stated in the pleadings as true.

On December 4, 1984, Robert Scott was injured while engaged in the course of his employment. At the time, he was working as a laborer in a plant owned by the defendant Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (Archer-Daniels). Plaintiff filed a complaint on October 8, 1987.
