OPINION

DIANE M. HENSON, Justice.

A jury convicted appellant Francisco In-iquez of aggravated assault. See Tex. Penal Code Ann. § 22.02(a)(2) (West 2011). The trial court sentenced Iniquez to fifteen years’ imprisonment. On appeal, Iniquez argues that the trial court erred by (1) failing to determine sua sponte whether Iniquez was competent to stand trial and (2) excluding expert psychological testimony that would have negated the applicable mens rea for assault. We affirm the judgment of the trial court.
