OPINION

VANZI, Judge.

{1} The State of New Mexico appeals from the district court’s order granting Defendant’s motion for a protective order. The question presented is whether Defendant has a privilege to refuse to disclose, and to prevent others from disclosing, confidential communications he made to a licensed social worker for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment. We conclude that Defendant has this privilege pursuant to Rule 11-504 NMRA and can thus prevent both his social worker and his ex-wife from disclosing information he communicated during counseling sessions.
