JOHNSON, Circuit Judge:

A discharged employee sued his former employer for defamation and invasion of privacy. The district court granted summary judgment for the employer. For the reasons outlined below, we affirm.

I. BACKGROUND

Pool Offshore Company is a division of Pool Company, which in turn is a subsidiary of Enserch Corporation. In September 1983, Pool Offshore Company (hereafter “Pool”) hired plaintiff J.P.
