Defendant-appellant Melvyn Altman appeals from a judgment of conviction and sentence entered on February 1, 1994 in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (Knapp, J.), following a jury trial, convicting him of four counts of mail fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1341, one count of witness tampering, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1512(b)(3), five counts of making false statements on bank loan applications, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1014, and two counts of subscribing to false federal tax returns, in violation of 26 U.S.C. § 7206(1).…
