Following a bench trial in the circuit court of Cook County, defendant, Glen Verser, was convicted of the murder and attempted armed robbery of Ismael Nunez and the attempted murder, attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery of Silvestre Compos. (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1985, ch. 38, pars. 9-1(a)(1), (a)(2), (a)(3), 8-4, 18-2(a), 12-4(a), 12 — 4(b)(1).) Defendant was concurrently sentenced to an extended term of 60 years for murder, an extended term of 60 years for attempted murder, and two maximum nonextended prison terms of 15 years…
