MELLOY, Circuit Judge.
Albert Pierson appeals the district court’s denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. Pierson argues that the district court erred in finding that his petition was untimely because it was not filed within the one-year period of limitation imposed by 28 U.S.C. § 2244(d)(1). For the reasons stated below, we reverse the judgment of the district court and remand for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.
