The respondent was charged with, and was convicted of, the crime of manslaughter. It is alleged and claimed by the people that about 2 o’clock p. m., on May 27, 1911, while driving an automobile in the township of Lansing, on Michigan avenue east, the same being a public highway and thoroughfare, and while going east toward the Agricultural college, and when in front of what is known as the Baker house, the respondent carelessly, recklessly, negligently, wantonly, wilfully, and feloniously operated said automobile at an excessive, reckless, and dangerous rate of speed, to wit, 20 miles an…
