This is an appeal to review a judgment entered in the circuit court of Muskegon county in favor of the plaintiffs in the sum of $21,769.21.

The defendant had a contract with the State highway commissioner for the construction of a portion of -the Holton road, so called. He . sublet a part of the work to the plaintiffs by contract in writing.
