OPINION

RABINOWITZ, Justice.

Richard Brand, doing business as Brand Plumbing and Heating, filed a four-count complaint against First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Fairbanks and others to foreclose mechanics’ liens. In its answer, First Federal affirmatively alleged that as to every parcel the owners had given it promissory notes secured by deeds of trust. It was further asserted that First Federal had recorded these deeds of trust and had posted and recorded notices of nonresponsibility before Brand began work or furnished materials.
