These are appeals under the provisions of G. L. c. 278, §§ 33A-33G, from convictions of' the defendants on four indictments which charged all four defendants (as well as a fifth man who was not tried with these defendants) with crimes against one Michael Allen. From Allen’s testimony the jury could have found as follows:
