The law of which the defendant claims the benefit was passed in 1812, and provides that any court rendering judgment against a debtor for debt or damages between 31 December in that year and 1 February, 1814, shall stay the same until the first term or session of the court after the latter period, upon the defendant's giving two freeholders as securities.
