Carolyn L. Jordan, as executrix of the estate of her husband, James I. Jordan, and as beneficiary of a group accidental death insurance policy that James had with Reliable Life Insurance Company ("Reliable") through his employer, sued Reliable in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama for benefits under her husband's policy after he died in an airplane crash.
