KERRIGAN, J.

This is a malpractice action by a Garden Grove patient against a Garden Grove dentist. During the course of a jury trial, the patient’s attorney called two Beverly Hills dentists: one a specialist; the other a general practitioner. The trial court ruled that neither was competent to express an opinion on the ultimate issue as to whether the defendant was negligent in the treatment he rendered the plaintiff.
