The dispositive issue in this appeal is the extent to which the trial court, in ruling on motions to set aside defaults entered against the defendant for failure to plead, may attribute the conduct of the defendant’s insurer to the defendant. The appeal of the defendant Drzislav Coric, the administrator of the estate of Robert Freeman, arises from the April 12, 1993 crash of a Piper aircraft en route from Groton, Connecticut, to Cortland, New York.
