This is an action for personal injuries sustained by the plaintiff Nellie M. Heggen, when the operator of the bus on which she was a paying passenger stopped suddenly to avoid a colisión with an automobile that turned in front of him. A few seconds thereafter, the rear of the *578bus was struck by another bus. Both busses, owned by the city of Seattle and operated by its agents, were traveling north on Second avenue, in the outside lane of traffic, at the time of the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Second avenue and Marion street.
