The plaintiffs, Hachiya and Livingston, brought the present action for a writ of mandamus and permanent injunction against defendant school board seeking their reinstatement as full-time teachers, award of back pay, and other relief. Both parties filed motions for summary judgment. The district court granted summary judgment for defendant and the plaintiffs appealed to the Court of Appeals.
