After a jury trial the defendant, Robert K. Jeffrey, was convicted of the crimes of sexual assault in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-70 (a)1 and kidnapping in the first degree in violation of General Statutes § 53a-92 (a) (2) (A).2 He was subsequently sentenced to an effective term of twelve years imprisonment, suspended after eight years followed by four years probation.
