In August, 1950, defendant orally agreed to employ plaintiff on a full time basis in his general contracting business. The agreement was put in writing in April, 1951, in the form of a letter from defendant to plaintiff, which provided:

“I hereby offer to employ you as an estimator and office manager in my general contracting business for a period of one year commencing January 1, 1951, and ending December 31, 1951, upon the following terms and conditions:
“1. I agree to pay you a salary of One Hundred Dollars ($100) per week, together with a sum which when added to the aforesaid salary will…
