This action was brought to recover damages for an alleged false imprisonment. On the 19th day of May, 1890, the plaintiff entered a car upon the Brooklyn bridge for the purpose of being transported from the city of Brooklyn to the city of Hew York. The gong had sounded for the cars to start and one Bishop, a police officer of the bridge trustees, standing upon the outer platform, closed the sliding door of the car just as the plaintiff entered, catching his foot between the door and the jamb.
