Plaintiffs in this action are two newspaper-publishing corporations;1 twelve individual journalists;2 and the “Reporters’ Committee for Freedom of the Press,” a legal research and defense fund organization established to protect the interests of the institutional press. The defendants in this case are the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (“AT&T”) and the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company (“C & P”).
