David Pare was convicted in December, 1995, of three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under fourteen years of age, in violation of G. L. c. 265, § 13B. The *567child, John,1 who was the son of Fare’s girlfriend, was ten in June, 1992, when he first accused Pare of sexual abuse. That accusation came over three years after the last alleged incident and John’s last contact with Pare. No physical evidence supported the allegations.
