Appeal from a judgment of the County Court of Broome County (Monserrate, J.), rendered August 14, 1986, upon a verdict convicting defendant of the crimes of attempted robbery in the second degree, assault in the second degree and assault in the third degree.

In the early morning hours of March 15, 1986, defendant attacked a man in the bathroom of a bar in the City of Binghamton, Broome County. Defendant savagely beat the man about the head and face, breaking his nose and the orbit of the man’s right eye. Defendant then demanded money.
