TJOFLAT, Circuit Judge:

Petitioner, an inmate on Alabama’s death row, appeals the denial of his peti tion for a writ of habeas corpus pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. After denying relief, the district court granted petitioner a certificate of appealability on five claims as to which petitioner had made a substantial showing of the denial of a constitutional right. 1 We conclude that none of these claims merits issuance of the writ. We therefore affirm.
