Porter, J.:

In the district court the plaintiff recovered judgment in an action upon a certificate of insurance. The'defendant appeals.

The defendant is a fraternal insurance association with its supreme office at Des Moines, Iowa. Its local lodges are called “homesteads.” Jennie Edmiston became a member of the Coffeyville homestead in June, 1907, and the defendant issued to her at that time a certificate of insurance for $1000, payable at her death to her brother, Thomas Edmiston, who was named as beneficiary.
