In this medical-malpractice action, defendants appeal as on leave granted1 the circuit court’s order denying their motion for summary disposition filed pursuant to MCR 2.116(C)(7). We reverse and remand for entry of judgment in favor of defendants consistent with this opinion.

I. FACTUAL BACKGROUND

On June 21, 2005, Dr. Mohan Dass Macha admitted plaintiffs decedent, Connor Burton, to Marlette Regional Hospital for a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.
