Appellee Carroll E. Car-J lisle, who is sixty-five years of age, brought a workers’ compensation claim against appellant Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA) on March 2, 1993, alleging that he had suffered hearing loss as a result of his employment. ALCOA defended, in part, on the ground that Mr. Carlisle’s claim was barred by the applicable two-year statute of limitations. Arkansas Code Annotated section ll-9-702(a)(l)(A) (Repl. 1996) provides:
