Defendant James L. “Rip” Rainey, Jr. appeals from judgments entered after the jury found him liable to plaintiffs Barbara C. Latta and Norma B. Ellis for compensatory and punitive damages resulting from his participation in a Ponzi scheme involving investments in mobile billboard advertising. In challenging the compensatory damage verdicts only, defendant argues that the trial court erred in denying his motions for a directed verdict and judgment notwithstanding the verdict (“JNOV”).
