KING, Circuit Judge:

Kevin Dean Young, imprisoned in South Carolina under a sentence of death, appeals the district court’s denial of his application for a writ of habeas corpus. The lower court rejected Young’s claims that (1) his lawyer rendered ineffective assistance during the guilt phase of Young’s murder trial; and (2) his death sentence was arbitrarily and capriciously imposed because the sentencing court declined to instruct the jury that the alternative of life…
