The defendant having been charged with, and tried and convicted of, the crime of forgery and sentenced to imprisonment at hard labor for four years, has appealed.

In order to prove that the order for the delivery of the goods, charged to have been forged, was in the handwriting of the defendant, the district attorney was permitted to introduce and offer to the jury another paper or writing, not on the same subject matter and irrelevant to the issue, for the purpose of instituting a comparison of handwriting, and thereby proving that the order, alleged to be forged, was in the handwriting of…
