The appellee, Mrs. H. A. Thomas, filed this suit in the district court of Johnson county on the 31st day of December, 1919, against the appellants, J. T. Alford and S. P. Ramsey, on a note executed by the latter persons on the 23d day of September, 1916, in the sum of $700, and payable to the'order of Otho S. Houston on December 15, 1919. The plaintiff: alleged that the note had been given by the defendants in payment of the rent on the Klondike ranch, located in Johnson county, Tex., for the year 1919.
