On December 19, 1898, appellees, trustees of schools, etc., filed their bill in the circuit court of Montgomery county to foreclose a mortgage executed to them by Lewis H. Thomas and wife on, among other lands, the east half of section 3, town 12, range 5, west of the third principal meridian, in said county, to secure the payment of an indebtedness of $13,000 evidenced by a promissory note by the mortgagor Lewis H.
