OPINION OF THE COURT
GARTH, Circuit Judge
We are called upon to review the District Court’s assessment of responsibility in a multi-party negligence and breach of contract action.
I
On or about February 17, 1969, plaintiff De Laval Turbine, Inc. (De Laval), a California corporation, entered into a contract of affreightment with defendant West India Industries, Inc. (Industries). Pursuant to this agreement, Industries contracted to transport De Laval’s 16-ton generator from Palm Beach, Florida to the Gallows Bay dock in Christiansted, St. Croix, and thence to the job site of the Virgin Islands…
