Defendant, Jose Huante, was arrested on November 13, 1985, after he had made three separate sales of cocaine to a Chicago police officer. Although the quantity of narcotics involved in this case made defendant eligible to be sentenced as a Class X felon, plea negotiations between defense counsel and the State led to the reduction of one of the charges to a Class 3, and defendant then pleaded guilty to three counts of delivery of a controlled substance. Defendant was sentenced to concurrent three-year terms of imprisonment on each plea, plus a one-year period of mandatory supervised release…
