This case was the indirect result of a traffic stop in Arizona. On September 6, 1989, Arizona Highway Patrolman Sandra Prichett stopped a car that had crossed the center line of the highway. The driver of vehicle could not produce a driver’s license when asked to but said that her name was Laina Young. The driver and a passenger, Sam Evans, produced papers showing that the car had been rented by Laina Young at the Los Angeles Airport.
