Storekeeper Second Class Stanley Othuru was convicted at a general court-martial of making a false official statement and theft of government property as a consequence of his fraudulent collection of basic allowance for housing (BAH) as a married servicemember while he was not legally married. He was sentenced to sixty days of confinement, reduction to E-3, and a fine of $34,000.00. If the fine was not paid, the sentence had a provision for contingent confinement of one year.
