I. INTRODUCTION

After suffering a fall down the stairs, Ralph Molinaro, an 80-year-old man on Coumadin, a powerful blood thinning medication, was taken to defendant Methodist Hospital’s emergency room at about 10:40 p.m. on the evening of January 21,2001. It was undisputed that Mr. Molinaro was at risk for internal bleeding after a fall.
