CARDAMONE, Circuit Judge:

Jose Luis Damblu (defendant or appellant) appeals from a judgment of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (Baer, J.), entered April 21, 1995, which, following a jury trial, found him guilty of possession of and conspiracy to distribute a narcotics substance.

We must decide on this appeal, among other issues, whether the cross-examination of defendant’s character witnesses prejudiced his defense. Defendant believes that the prosecutor asked the defense witnesses questions that assumed his guilt of the crime charged. As a result of this,…
