This is an action originally instituted against 15,843 defendants to recover upon the assessment levied by plaintiff, as Superintendent of Banks, against the defendants, as stockholders of the Bank of United States. Of the defendants originally named, default judgments have already been entered and the action severed against approximately 3,000 defendants and some 4,000 defendants have executed agreements, all of which were introduced in evidence upon the trial of this action, providing for the payment of their respective assessments in full upon stated terms and author*520izing the entry of…
