Both the deed of trust and the old age assistance lien are by law required to be recorded. G.S. 161-22; G.S. 108-30.1. It is conceded by all parties that “priority” in this case means priority of recordation. “. . . (N)o instrument shall be deemed to be properly registered until the same has been properly indexed . . .” G.S. 161-22.
