GARWOOD, Circuit Judge:

Rennie Gordon Atwell, who is serving a life sentence in the Louisiana state penitentiary, appeals from the district court’s denial of his petition for writ of habeas corpus. Atwell asserts two primary grounds for relief. First, he claims that he was indicted by a grand jury that did not represent a fair cross-section of the community as required by the United States Constitution.
