On a cold and rainy November night in 2004, at *613approximately 11:30 p.m., a man wielding a knife entered a Cumberland Farms convenience store in Pittsfield. The man demanded money from the cashier and, when a second employee entered the store a few minutes later, stabbed the latter. The defendant was convicted of armed assault with intent to rob (G. L. c. 265, § 18[¿>]), and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (G. L. c. 256, § 15A[Z>]).
