On October 13, 1945, the prosecuting attorney for Franklin county, Washington, filed with the clerk of the superior court an information charging Archie Brown, Aaron Johnson, and Willie Smith with the crime of murder in the first degree in count No. 1, and with the crime of robbery in count No. 2. Each offense was alleged to have been committed on or about September 28, 1945. The defendants are negroes. Upon their arraignment, it was discovered that they were without funds, and two lawyers of the locality in which the court was situated were appointed, by order of the court, to represent them…
