OPINION

This appeal concerns the party-switching restrictions on political candidates for the General Assembly under section 8 — 8 of the Election Code (10 ILCS 5/8 — 8 (West 2008)). At issue is whether Steven J. Rauschenberger was ineligible to run as a Republican candidate in the February 2010 general primary election for the office of State Senator because he voted a Democratic ballot in the February 2009 consolidated primary election in Elgin Township.
