OPINION

COLE, Circuit Judge.

The United States appeals the district court’s award to defendant Donald G. Ford of interest accrued on $926,202.53 in funds seized by the government and held pending Ford’s criminal trial, but later found by the jury not to have been directly traceable to illegal activity. Specifically, the district court ordered the United States to credit, against fines and penalties owed by Ford, the interest accrued on this sum during the period between the date the funds were seized and the date of the judgment in Ford’s criminal case.
