Plaintiff J. Alex Newton, a black male, alleges he was the victim of racial discrimination in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. § 2000e et seq. (1982), and of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, 42 U.S.C. § 1981 (1982). Newton alleges that he was demoted from a position as “corporate account manager” and subsequently discharged from defendant A.B. Dick Company (“A.B. Dick”) because of his race. A.B.
