On the night of the accident there was considerable traffic on Main street. A number of automobiles were parked on the north side of the street up to the curb, but sufficient space was left between these parked automobiles and the south curb to afford ample passageway for automobiles passing both toward the east a.nd the west. It was Saturday night, and the street was crowded with people who had come to the city to shop or for amusement purposes.

At the time of the accident there was in force in the city an ordinance known as No. 398, which in part reads as follows:
