PONDER, Justice.

This is an appeal from a judgment restoring the pay of the members of the Fire Department of the City of New Orleans to the basis on which they were paid in the years 1929 and 1930.

The plaintiffs, about 620 members of the Fire Department of the City of New Orleans, instituted this suit against the Board of Commissioners of the Fire Department of the City of New Orleans and the City of New Orleans, seeking to have their pay restored to the basis on which they were paid in the years 1929 and 1930, and to recover a large amount of back pay which constituted the difference between…
