Defendant-Appellant Matsu Thornton (Thornton) appeals from the judgment en tered by the Circuit Court of the First Circuit 1 (circuit court) on August 25, 2008, convicting and sentencing him for Unauthorized Possession of Confidential Personal Information in violation of Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) § 708-839.55 (Supp.2008). 2
